A Change in Your Life Could Mean a Change in Your Benefits

You may be eligible to make certain changes to Alcatel-Lucent benefits coverages outside of the annual open enrollment period if you have a “qualified status change.” Qualified status changes include:

  • Marriage, divorce or legal separation
  • Birth or adoption of a child
  • A dependent’s death
  • You or a dependent becoming Medicare-eligible
  • A change in your spouse’s employment status that results in a change to his or her benefits coverage

If you experience a qualified status change, you have 31 days from the event to change or elect coverage, either through the Your Benefits Resources (YBR) Web site, or by calling the Alcatel-Lucent Benefits Center at 1-888-232-4111. If you do not take action to change your coverage within 31 days of the qualified status change, you may have to wait until the annual open enrollment period for the following year to change your coverage.

At any time during the year, whether you have a qualified status change or not, you can drop coverage and/or dependents at any time from your medical (which includes prescription drug and dental) coverage, or enroll in or disenroll from a Medicare HMO.

New child?

Do not wait until you have a Social Security Number for a newborn or newly adopted child to enroll your child in Alcatel-Lucent coverage. You can enroll him or her right away and provide the Social Security Number at a later date.

If you miss the 31-day timeframe to enroll a newborn, or child newly placed with you for adoption, but are still within 60 days of the date of the event, call the Alcatel-Lucent Benefits Center and ask for a Claim Initiation Form (CIF) to initiate the enrollment process.
